CONTRASTS: The Virtuoso Guitar of Adam Cicchillitti on Tour with Debut Atlantic
K’JIUPUKTUK/HALIFAX, NS – This September, acclaimed Canadian classical guitarist Adam Cicchillitti will captivate audiences throughout Atlantic Canada with Contrasts, a program that spans continents and centuries, celebrating the guitar’s expressive power and evolving identity. Presented by Debut Atlantic, the tour highlights Cicchillitti’s artistry as both interpreter and innovator, weaving together folk traditions, Baroque elegance, impressionist colors, and contemporary voices.
Contrasts is a journey through diverse and surprising musical landscapes, reflecting Cicchillitti’s deeply personal curatorial vision. The program opens with Two Songs from Newfoundland (arr. Jason Noble), which root the listener in Atlantic Canadian tradition with nostalgic folk poetry and melodies. From there, audiences are carried across centuries and borders, including works by Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Domenico Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, and more. The result is a program that celebrates the guitar as both timeless and forward-looking—at once virtuosic, poetic, and profoundly human.
Hailed as a “gifted guitarist” (Classical Guitar Magazine), Cicchillitti has earned recognition for his luminous tone, compelling stage presence, and dedication to enriching the guitar’s repertoire. He is a laureate of multiple international competitions and has performed across North America and Europe. His duo projects and acclaimed recordings on the Analekta label further demonstrate his commitment to championing Canadian music and reimagining classical traditions. A devoted educator, Cicchillitti teaches at Mount Allison University’s School of Music, inspiring the next generation of guitarists.
