Debut Atlantic Award for Musical Excellence – Now Accepting Applications!
We’re excited to announce that the Debut Atlantic Award for Musical Excellence is now accepting applications for 2025! Established in 1999, this prestigious award celebrates exceptional young talent in Atlantic Canada and offers fantastic opportunities for high school music students who are serious about pursuing their passion for music. If you’re an Atlantic Canadian student with big musical dreams, this award could be your ticket to success!
What’s the Debut Atlantic Award?
The Debut Atlantic Award for Musical Excellence is an annual prize presented to a talented high school student in Atlantic Canada who demonstrates outstanding dedication to the serious study of music. The award winner will receive:
- $2,000 cash prize
- The opportunity to perform as a special guest at a Debut Atlantic concert
- Additional opportunities for mentorship and concert attendance (subject to scheduling and availability)
Previous winners have enjoyed performance opportunities at esteemed festivals like the Indian River Festival in PEI and ÉtÉ Musical De Barachois in New Brunswick!
Deadline to Apply: January 31, 2026

How to Apply:
- Download the Submission Guidelines and Application Form (links below).
- Submit the following items:
- Three MP3 recordings of contrasting musical works (max. 20 minutes total)
- A brief biography (max. 250 words)
- A high-resolution digital headshot
- Completed application form
- All materials must be submitted by mail. Unfortunately, we cannot accept submissions via email or other electronic means.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be permanent residents of Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Prince Edward Island.
- Applicants must be currently attending a high school in one of these provinces.
How are Submissions Assessed?
All submissions will be evaluated by a distinguished Debut Atlantic alumni artist chosen for their experience in music adjudication. The process is anonymous, ensuring a fair and impartial review. Results will be shared in March 2025, and applicants will be notified by email.
