Music Moves Us: Help Bring Live Music to More Students
Debut Atlantic is proud to launch Music Moves Us, our fundraising campaign in partnership with the Valley Harvest Marathon.
This fall, we’re inviting our community to run, walk, donate, and rally behind a shared goal: ensuring students across Atlantic Canada continue to experience the inspiration and joy of live music.
For nearly five decades, Debut Atlantic has been a leader in bringing extraordinary live music experiences across Atlantic Canada, connecting communities of all sizes with some of Canada’s best emerging classical and global music artists through our concert and community programs. Every investment in Debut Atlantic helps launch careers, enrich communities, and ensures the transformative power of live performance reaches audiences where it is needed most.
Why We’re Running to Keep Live Music in Schools
Music Moves Us is a community fundraising campaign supporting Debut Atlantic’s Debut Goes to School Program.
We know that movement is important for healthy lives. Physical activity strengthens our bodies, builds resilience, and brings people together. The arts do many of the same things. Music inspires creativity, supports emotional wellbeing, encourages self-expression, and helps young people develop confidence, curiosity, and connection. Healthy communities need both.
For thousands of students across Atlantic Canada, a school visit from a professional musician is more than a performance – it’s an opportunity to experience live music up close, ask questions, discover new cultures, and connect with the arts in a meaningful way.
For some students, it is their first encounter with professional live music. For others, it may be their only opportunity.
Debut Brings Music To School, No Matter Where You Live.
Through the Debut Goes to School Program, professional Canadian artists bring exceptional classical and global music experiences directly into schools and communities. These visits complement existing music and arts programs while helping ensure students in rural, remote, and under-resourced communities have access to the same inspiring opportunities as their peers.
At a time when arts education opportunities are facing increasing pressures, community support ensures these experiences remain available to students regardless of where they live or what resources their school may have.
Why Now? Why Thirty-Five Thousand?
In March 2026, the Nova Scotia Provincial Government cut over 130 million dollars in Arts and Culture funding. While we’re resilient and have been able to pivot, it has undeniably impacted our programming. The $35,000 grant, that funded our Debut Goes To School program in Nova Scotia, was fully eliminated. While the grant no longer exists, the need for bringing music into schools across Nova Scotia is still ever present. In fact, demand for this program continues to grow each year.
This October, every kilometre logged and every dollar donated helps keep live music accessible, equitable, and inspiring for the next generation.
Because every student deserves the opportunity to be moved by music.

We are deeply grateful for this support, which opens doors for the next generation through the transformative power of music.
