The real life marriage of two great concert pianists, Lucille Chung and Alessio Bax, has led to one of the best piano duos of their generation. “Theirs is a marriage of wondrous colours and dextrous aplomb [and] subtly balanced to make a musical performance sound as one” (Music and Arts, UK).

A musical love story, Bax and Chung first met at the 1997 Hamamatsu Competition, and began a friendship that eventually led to their marriage. In 2003, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival had the brilliant idea to put them together as a piano duo at the National Arts Centre for their Piano Extravaganza, where their performance was hailed as “a lucid and deeply moving musical experience” (American Record Guide). Since then, the two-piano and piano-four-hand format has become an important addition to both of their solo careers and the duo has appeared with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra, South Dakota Symphony, New Philharmonic Orchestra, Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and EurOrchestra di Bari.

Performing together on many of the world’s most prestigious platforms Bax & Chung have appeared in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Palestine, Korea, China, Barbados, Aruba, Guatemala, USA and Canada. Festival appearances include the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the opening concert of the Chungmu Hall in Seoul, Korea, the Pau Casals, Castilla y Leon, Denia, Alicante, and Pamplona International Festivals in Spain, the Felicja Blumental Festival in Tel Aviv, the Lübecker Kammermusikfest in Germany, EurOrchestra Piano Festival in Italy, Ottawa Chamber Festival in Canada, Bravissimo Festival in Guatemala, Aruba International Piano Festival, the Bard Festival and Dakota Sky Festival in the US.

Recording the complete works of György Ligeti for piano four hands as well as two pianos on the Dynamic label, The Bax & Chung Duo was garnered the maximum R10 Classica from the French magazine Répertoire and 5 Stars from Fono Forum in Germany. In 2006, they released Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Michael York as narrator. In addition to their recordings, the duos live broadcasted performances on CBC radio Canada have established them as one of the most dynamic and brilliant young Canadian piano duos of their generation.

Committed educators at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and co-artistic directors of the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation, Bax & Chung know how important it is to nurture our future audiences and foster the local talent. Each year they organize master classes at the local arts high school in Dallas and promote recitals for young artists in Spain and the USA with the help of the Spanish Embassy and local consulates. In addition, the Duo gives master classes in reputable institutions such as New York University, the International Keyboard Festival at Mannes, Cornell University, University of Kansas in Wichita, Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University, to name a few. They also serve together on several juries for international piano competitions in North and South America.

Une histoire d’amour musicale, Bax et Chung se sont rencontrés pour la première fois au concours Hamamatsu en 1997 et ils se sont liés d’amitié qui a éventuellement aboutit en mariage. En 2003, le festival Musique de chambre d’Ottawa a eu l’idée de mettre ces deux pianistes ensemble en tant que duo au Centre national des arts pour leur Piano Extravaganza, où leur représentation a été qualifié d’expérience musicale « profonde et lucide » (American Record Guide). Depuis lors, le format deux-pianos, piano-quatre-main est devenue une addition importante à chacune de leurs carrières individuelles et ils ont produits ensemble avec l’orchestre de chambre d’Israël, l’orchestre symphonique de Fort Worth, l’orchestre symphonique Irving, l’orchestre symphonique du South Dakota, le New Philharmonic Orchestra, l’orchestre Jeunesse de Greater Dallas et l’EurOrchestra di Bari.

Le couple a donné des concerts sur plusieurs des scènes les plus prestigieuses. Bax et Chung se sont produits au Royaume-Uni, en Espagne, en Allemagne, en Italie, en Suisse, en Israël, en Palestine, en Corée, en Chine, à la Barbade, à Aruba, au Guatemala, aux États-Unis et au Canada. Ils sont apparus lors de festivals dont celui de Verbier en Suisse, le concert d’ouverture de la salle Chungmu à Séoul en Corée, le Pau Casals, le Castilla y Leon, le Denia, l’Alicante et le festival international de Pampelune en Espagne, le festival Felicja Blumental à Tel-Aviv, le Lübecker Kammermusikfest en Allemagne, le Festival EurOrchestra Piano en Italie, le festival de Musique de chambre d’Ottawa au Canada, le Festival Bravissimo au Guatemala, le festival Aruba International Piano, le festival Bard et le festival Dakota Sky aux États-Unis.

Après avoir enregistré les œuvres complètes de György Ligeti pour piano  quatre-mains et pour deux pianos sur la marque Dynamic, le duo Bax et Chung a recueilli le maximum R10 Classica du journal français Répertoire ainsi que 5 étoiles de Fono Forum en Allemagne. En 2006, ils ont sorti les Carnavals des Animaux de Saint-Saëns avec l’orchestre symphonique de Fort Worth avec pour narrateurs Miguel Harth-Bedoya et Michael York. En addition de leurs enregistrements, leurs représentations diffusées par CBC Radio-Canada les ont établis comme étant un des duos canadiens de piano le plus dynamique et brillant de leur génération.

Tous deux enseignants dévoués de l’université Southern Methodist à Dallas et codirecteurs artistiques de la fondation Joaquín Achúcarro, Bax et Chung connaissent l’importance d’entretenir nos audiences de l’avenir et d’encourager le talent local. Chaque année, ils organisent des cours de maître à l’école secondaire d’arts à Dallas et ils font la promotion des récitals donnés par des jeunes en Espagne et aux États-Unis avec l’aide de l’ambassade de l’Espagne et des consulats locaux. De plus, le duo donne des cours de maître dans des institutions très respectées telles que l’université de New York, l’International Keyboard Festival à Mannes, l’université Cornel, l’université du Kansas à Wichita, l’université Southern Methodist et l’université Texas Christian parmi de nombreuses autres. Ils siègent également ensemble sur plusieurs jurys pour des compétitions internationales de piano en Amérique du Nord et du Sud.
