“1979 was a very busy year; I won several first prizes: first provincial prize in the Festival de Musique du Québec, ex-eacho with Marc-André Hamelin, first provincial prize in the Baldwin Competition, first grand prize in the Saint-Lambert Festival, and in the Radio-Canada Competition semi-finals, where I played the Grieg concerto with the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, conducted by James de Preist. These prizes lead me to the concert in your series, in fall, 1979, if I remember correctly. I was 17 years old, and it was my first concert appearance outside Quebec. I was really impressed! I remember that the piano was good, but the  floor was not even, so the bench tended to move while I was playing, which did not prevent me from playing well. There was a great number of people in the hall at the time and their reaction was very encouraging.

In the second part of the program, cellist, Johanne Perron, was playing, and I remember very well that I really enjoyed the sound she produced with her cello. It is interesting to note that I also remember 7 or 8 years ago when we were judges in the Festival de Musique de Montréal and decided to give a concert together on September 20, 2008 at the Petite Chapelle Saint-Gérard in Saint-Felix-de-Kingsey, between Drummondville and Victoriaville, Quebec.”
